By the word of the Lord to us;
this month has been declared our month of Grace! The Lord spoke to us through
two texts of scriptures showing us two aspects of the grace of God. The first
is Titus 2:11-14 and the second is Hebrews 12:28. I quote these scriptures
here:
“For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,
Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live
soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;
Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great
God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;
Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and
purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.” Titus
2:11-14
“Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have
grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear:”
Heb.12:28
From the above texts, it is clear
that grace:
1. Brings
salvation.
2. Teaches
godliness.
3. Redeem
us from iniquity and make us passionate about doing the right things/good
works.
4. Causes
us to hope for the soon return of the Lord
5. And
that the proof of having the grace of God is that we would serve God acceptably
with reverence and godly fear.
The root word “Charis” from which
the word grace originates means both divine favour and the supernatural ability
to be and do what we cannot be and do naturally. In the book of Romans 7,
Apostle Paul laments that the things he desires to do, elude him because as
much as he wanted to do what was right, the wrong was always there in his flesh
to weaken his efforts bringing him to the subjection of sin in his flesh. He
however concludes in Romans 8:1 that there is no more condemnation for us who
are in Christ Jesus when we walk after the Spirit and not according to the
dictates of the flesh. From our texts
above, it is evident that it takes grace to serve God acceptably, it takes
grace to live godly and it also takes grace to live with eternity in view.
The good news is that this grace
is available to us today as our first text reveals to us that the Grace of God
has appeared to all men. The vessel of grace is the Lord Jesus Christ and salvation
from sin and ungodliness is only made possible by faith in the Lord’s death and
resurrection. Access to God to obtain this grace is only made possible through
the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ shed for us on Calvary’s Cross.
In light of the foregoing, we now
have access to God; we can live His life on earth and hope for His soon return
all by His grace. In addition to all these and more, we have His authorization
to extend this grace to the lost so as to save them from the wrath to come in
the final judgment of sin and all who refuse to embrace this grace for whatever
reason. To this end, this month, our focus shall be on implementing the
greatest instruction given to us by God which is to win the lost to Christ and disciple
them until He returns. This baton was handed down to us by the previous
generation of saints and we owe our generation and posterity the debt of
passing this truth down to the next generation. This is the only way we can
keep this hope alive until the soon return of the Lord.
We have seen over time and from
the word that nothing brings us blessing as much as obeying the commandment of
the great commission to make disciples of all nations. For instance, the Lord
said in John 4:35-36 that anyone who reaps receives wages and gathers fruit
unto eternal life. This is one service in God’s kingdom that guarantees that we
are paid by God and God’s payment cuts across all spheres of human existence.
He said in Exodus 23:25-26 that when we serve Him, He shall bless our bread and
water and remove sickness from us and protect us from miscarriages and
barrenness. So here we see both material provision and provision that surpass
material blessings packaged together as wages for service in the kingdom of
God. There is no greater benefit than that given by God. This is why I believe
that the greatest wisdom statements ever made with regards to provision was
that made by the Lord in Matthew 6:33. Until the kingdom of God is successfully
brought to the heart of men through evangelism and discipleship programs, man
would never know true peace and security. So God rewards anyone who would take
the challenge to be instrumental in restoring His kingdom to the heart of men.
This month we shall learn about
how to engage in this great end time harvest of the lost into the kingdom of
God and engage in it with all our hearts. In the event you are reading this and
you are not yet saved and want to be saved, you can join us by saying the
prayer below and follow up on your salvation by writing to us to let us know
you got saved through this means so we can send you resources that will help
you become established in faith and also become instrumental in God’s hands in
bringing others who need this unspeakable gift of God to the world.
Heavenly father,
Have mercy on me a sinner. I
believe in my heart that Jesus Christ died for me on Calvary’s Cross and
confess with my mouth that He is my savior and Lord. Please wipe my name from
the book of death and enter it into the book of life in the name of the Lord
Jesus Christ. Thank you father for answering in Jesus’ name!
