“That the trial of your faith, being much more
precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be
found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:
Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though
now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and
full of glory:” 1Peter1:7-8
Last week was dark in the
history of time following the mishaps recorded from two plane crashes; not to
talk of the disaster recorded from the crash of 17th of July. While
I grieve with the affected parties, I wish to let everyone know, that in the
midst of all these trials befalling the world, we have comfort and safety in
Christ based on what the God who cannot lie tells us in His word – The Bible –
see Titus 1:2; John 15:11 & 16:33.
While I am not a bearer
of evil tidings, I want to point out here that the times we are in are perilous
times as prophesied by the Lord and His first Apostles. However, He tells us
that when we shall see these things, we should look up and take solace in the
fact that these things signal the time of our redemption. Also, Apostle Paul makes us
understand that these evils are signals that our salvation is nearer now than
when we first believed. [See Luk.21:25-28; Rom.13:11]. In other words, I want
you to understand that as many as would take the time to stay in the Lord’s
presence to learn from Him in these times would receive inside information from
the eternal throne room that the end is near and this would cause us to break
forth in unspeakable joy full of glory as Apostle Peter describes it. A close
look at our text scripture and John 16:33 show us that joy and peace which put
together, define: “unspeakable joy full of glory” are not experienced based on
external circumstances but on inside information gleaned from the Holy Spirit. I
must quickly distinguish joy from happiness here. Whereas happiness is defined
as an agreeable feeling or condition of the soul arising from good fortune or propitious
happening of any kind etc.; joy on the other hand, is passion or emotion
excited by the expectation of good. I believe that this definition of joy is
what describes what Jesus was saying in John 15:11 that He was giving His
disciples heavenly information to enable them experience joy in their
expectation of its fulfillment. This truth is what makes joy an evidence of
faith in the heart in the midst of challenging circumstances.
The truth is that until
we can clearly hear the voice of God and be led by His Holy Spirit, unspeakable
joy is not guaranteed in these times. This month of unspeakable joy is
therefore a month when we have to take the time to learn and practice the art
of hearing God’s voice. This would keep us in tune with what would guarantee
our unspeakable joy for the rest of our sojourn on earth. To this end, this
month, we shall be looking at a series titled: CONDITIONING YOURSELF TO BE LED
BY THE HOLY SPIRIT.
However, if you stumbled
on this article and you do not have a living experience of God indwelling you,
you can start today by saying the following prayer inviting Jesus Christ to be
the Lord of your life and you will be born again into the family of God:
Heavenly Father, have mercy on me a sinner, but today, I repent of my
sin and declare that Jesus Christ is the Lord of my life from this day because
I believe He died for my sin on Calvary’s Cross and on the third day, you
raised Him from the dead for my justification. Please wipe my name from the
book of death and enter it into the book of life in the name of the Lord Jesus
Christ!
Amen!!!
