The
Oxford dictionary defines destiny as the
events that will necessarily happen to a particular person or thing in the
future. While this addresses our question, it is an incomplete definition
in the sense that many can misunderstand it as events that we have no control
over. On the contrary, the bible gives us a wider definition of destiny by
introducing a very important element as far as destiny is concerned and that
element is the element of choice which is expressed in the decisions we make
and follow through. In Deuteronomy 30:19, God brought this truth out clearly by
Moses the man of God when he said:
“I call heaven and earth to record this day
against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore
choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:”
From
this text of scripture together with our definition from the oxford English
dictionary, it is very clear that destiny is the journey of life determined by
the decisions people make based on their preferences or choices. In other
words, your destiny brings out the truth clearly that life is a journey and not
a short walk.
To
live life to the full therefore, you must not only live it with intentionality,
but you must live it with the right intentions. To live with intentionality is
to live life on purpose. So many now live on purpose but when it comes to
living with the right purpose, not many are doing it. This is what sets those
living life with good success apart from those who are merely successful. Those
living with good success have it all whereas those who are merely successful
are living most of the time with sorrows attached to their success. See Joshua
1:8, Job 36:11 and Ps.1:1-6.
You
are said to live with the right intentions when your purpose is revealed to you
by God and you run based on that. When you create a purpose for yourself, a
hundred percent of the time, you are wrong because knowledge of who you are and
what you are designed to accomplish does not vest with you but with your maker.
Thus to enjoy a destiny of glory, you have to first have received a revelation
of who God is, who you are and why you are. Until these truths are revealed to
you, you are not yet living. The reason is that that which can truly be known
especially of God, can only be given to us by His revelation. See Jer.1:4-5,
Luk.1:11-17. In the example of John here, he was eventually born as the angel
told his father and as soon as he came of age, he began to pursue his destiny
which culminated in his introduction of the Lord Jesus Christ as the Messiah in
John 1:23-34.
In
the eleventh chapter of the book of Hebrews, we see a catalogue of people we
today acclaim as heroes of the Faith. They all had one thing in common. They knew
God and His word and they knew God’s specific word to them. Knowing God and his
word is the foundation of the values of a life that could make a destiny
glorious. Then knowing God’s specific word to you is the foundation for your
pursuit of a glorious destiny. In other words, a glorious destiny is available
to those who get to know God and live by His word but actually pursing a
glorious destiny is rooted in getting to know God’s specific word to you. All the
heroes of faith in our example had these in common; they knew God and chose to
live by his word or his ways and they received God’s specific instructions for their
individual lives and followed them.
This
month, God has determined to empower all running in His purpose for them to
enjoy more fulfillment and those who are not yet doing so but desire to do so,
to discover how to and get into their true life’s journey so they can have it
all as God intends for us all. However, if you are yet to commence a living
relationship with God, your life and endeavors will be as fruitless as trying
to cultivate a plastic seed. It cannot even germinate not to talk of produce no
matter what environment you create for it. This is why Jesus said you must be
born again. If you get born again, you will come alive and become cultivatable
until you grow to fulfill your destiny. If you say you want to choose this
life, then you can say the following prayer out loud and you will be saved:
Heavenly Father,
Have mercy on me a sinner. Today, I believe that Jesus died
for me and you raised Him from the dead for my Justification. I therefore
declare that Jesus Christ is my Saviour and Lord and from today, I renounce the
fatherhood of Satan and embrace Jesus Christ as my Saviour and Lord. Thank you
for this father in Jesus’ name!
Amen.
