Message for
Sunday the 18th of December 2016
Theme: Understanding the power in Appreciating the Lord
Topic: Request versus promote
Introduction: By this, I mean to make request to God versus to promote
God. To promote is to appreciate God for what he has done and for who He is.
This means gratitude and praise. Now we want to put them in what is like a
boxing ring for them to wrestle with the word of God and see who wins.
1. You ask in request whereas you give to promote.
Mk.7:7-8, in 2Chron.20 when Judah prayed, God sent them a message instructing
them to praise Him for their victory. When they did, God took over the battle
and slew all their adversaries. All the needed to do was cart away the spoils
of victory.
2. Angels are sent on errands in respect of request whereas God
would personally come to receive the praise when He is promoted. When angels are
sent, they could possibly be delayed. When God takes over, no one can stand on
His way. See Dan.10:1-14 and Acts 16:25.
3. Requests take longer to attend to whereas promotions are
instantly attended to. In our Daniel example above we saw that it took 21 days
for an angel to deliver an errand after involving the archangel Michael - the
Prince of the warring Angels. On the other hand, when Judah by divine direction
lifted praise to God in 2Chron.20:13-25, God fought for them like He promised
if they praised Him. They obeyed and praised Him and saw the glory of God.
4. Requests require that you engage a lot of skill whereas
promos only demand an appreciative heart. There are different ways to pray
different kinds of prayer especially when praying in your understanding. This
is why Apostle Paul enjoined the Church at Ephesus to pray all manner of
prayers in the spirit Eph.6:18. On the other hand you only need the right
attitude to praise God; your ability to remember what he has done and who He
has been to you
5. Requests come to take whereas promos come to give.
When we pray, we are asking God to do something for us. On the other hand when
we praise, we are doing something for God. In Jn.11:41-42 when Jesus was to
perform this very most important feat of raising Lazarus from the dead, he
engaged the instrument of appreciating God. Also, when He wanted to perform the
miracle of
Multiplying much food from little, He engaged the tool of
appreciating God. see John 6:1-13.
6. Promos solve problems that prayer cannot solve.
Paul and Silas prayed, no solution and they sang praises and their problem was
solved. This is a strong case for midnight praise. Acts 16:25
As we approach the end of this great year of divine exemption
from all evils. I believe this is a time we must express the most profound
appreciation for the Lord for all the good things He has done. Also, we are
made to understand that the Lord crowns the year with His goodness. In other
words, the goodness of the Lord may be towards someone reading this message who
is yet to make a decision for Christ and the Lord is beckoning on you to make
you all he wants you to be. If you would take His offer, please say the
following prayer out loud in faith and you shall be saved:
Heavenly Father,
Have mercy on me a sinner. Today, I believe that Jesus
died for me and you raised Him from the dead for my Justification. I therefore
declare that Jesus Christ is my Saviour and Lord and from today, I renounce the
fatherhood of Satan and embrace Jesus Christ as my Saviour and Lord. Thank you
for this father in Jesus’ name! Amen.
