Theme: Understanding God’s Principles of Success
Topic: God’s will is our Success
Introduction: One of the most misunderstood subjects in our time is success. The definition of this word varies based on the mindset of whoever attempts to define it. One day in Church while on the mission field outside my country of origin, I decided to conduct an opinion poll of the word success to see how my people were thinking. I got three sets of answers. One was influenced by the vain image presented by the media to the world promoting materialism. Another was an incomplete understanding of the process that leads to success while thankfully; I had a few who mentioned what success really means from God’s perspective.
Today, we are therefore going to be looking at what success means with special emphasis on the truth that it is God’s will for us to succeed.
What Success is: Until we understand the meaning and reason for a thing, we would really not know how to keep from abusing it. According to Dr. Myles Munroe, where purpose is not known, abuse is inevitable. Therefore to keep from abusing success, let us see what it is:
Success is the discovery; diligent pursuit and completion of divine purpose. This explains why in the beginning of the journey of anyone through time with God, the first thing God reveals to them is their purpose. See the example of Jeremiah in Jeremiah 1:4-5. God told Jeremiah his purpose for living and invited him to take responsibility. God went ahead to assure him of the power he had built into him over nations and kingdoms assuring him that he was equipped for his assignment. He even told him how he was to run in his purpose which Jeremiah was diligent to do. The fact that he succeeded is the legacy of the book of Jeremiah which we have with is today that is still blessing us in time and ultimately will bless us in eternity. See also the example of the Lord Jesus Christ in Jn.17:4, Heb.10:6-10 and Jn.18:37.
Our success is God’s Priority: in 3Jn.2, we are told that God wishes above all things that we prosper and be in health as our soul prospers. Prosperity is another word used to describe success and it means to be whole; nothing missing and nothing broken.
Proof of God’s will being our success:
The first thing He releases on His creation is His blessing which carries fruitfulness and multiplication as evidences. So when we are fruitful and multiplying, we are fulfilling divine purpose and therefore succeeding. See Gen.1:20-22; 26-28; Ex.1:7.
God gave us the formula for Success when He counselled Joshua in Jos.1:8
God’s formula for success is what the Psalmist used to end up and eternal Excellency before God. See Ps.1:1-3.
Apostle Paul was instrumental in leading Timothy to understand this formula of God in 1Tim.4:13-16.
God encourages us to run the race of destiny enduring till the end by letting us know that we would be specially rewarded for so doing. Please see Rev.1-2 and Lk.22:29-30.
We shall stop here for today, next week; we shall begin to look at the process that leads to success. Meanwhile, let us understand that the will of God is to see His children succeed before attending to others. If you are yet to make Jesus Christ your Saviour and Lord, you do not belong to his family yet. To belong therefore, let us say the following prayer out loud in faith and we shall commence the journey:
Heavenly Father,
Have mercy on me a sinner. Today, I believe that Jesus died for me and you raised Him from the dead for my Justification. I therefore declare that Jesus Christ is my Saviour and Lord and from today, I renounce the fatherhood of Satan and embrace Jesus Christ as my Saviour and Lord. Thank you for this father in Jesus’ name! Amen.
