Welcome to the month of January 2020: Our Month of New Things

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; 2Cor.1:17-18
As a new year begins, one general Characteristic of the New Year is the decision of many to make a resolution of what they would do differently this year to be better than they used to be. Many would desire and decide to quit bad habits like smoking, drinking etc. Sadly, many decisions do not survive the first week before they fail because it is not in the power of man to live better by himself. If your case is like this, I have good news for you because the only person who can help us live differently is God. He has accomplished this by the solution He has graciously provided for us on the Cross of Calvary with His only begotten Son Jesus Christ.
In the book of Jn.3:14 we are taught that as Moses lifted up the Serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have eternal life. Eventually, Christ was lifted up on the Cross with the most shameful kind of death as a type of the lifting up of the serpent of Moses to remove the venom of sin from the souls of men. Thus at this time, we are reminded again of the sacrifice of the Lord Jesus Christ on the Cross of Calvary as the ultimate solution to the problem many have been trying to solve with New Year resolutions to no avail.
The sin nature of man is the reason for all the human weaknesses he is trying to solve by resolutions to no avail. The scriptures let us know that if any man be in Christ, he is a new creation; old things are passed away and all things have become new and that these new things are of God who was reconciling us to God in Christ Jesus and has committed to us the word of reconciliation. By this, we can also tell others to be reconciled to God. Thus this month we shall be looking at the theme: Understanding the New Creation man. [2Cor.5:17-18; 1Pet.1:23; Jn.3:3-7 and 1Cor.6:17] This is because, it is required for man to get born again before he can change from his old life of sin to live a life that honours God. God’s kingdom on earth has to be occupied by people who have embraced and are living witnesses of the culture of God’s kingdom. His culture is clearly taught by the scriptures which are a compilation of the revealed word of God shown to holy men by the Holy Spirit. These words are so powerful that receiving them has the power to change the recipient from the mentality of the kingdom of darkness into the mentality of the kingdom of light. If it is the word of God, it carries life transforming power. This is what differentiates the New Creation from the world.
In summation here, let us understand that at new birth, only the spirit of man is saved; the soul and body remains the same. It is the life transforming power of the word; that, when applied often to the new creation man; helps him to be transformed in the soul into the reality of God’s kingdom citizenship. This reality is shown in his conduct as he is able to lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness as he receives the engrafted word of God for the transformation of his soul. See James 1:21; Rm.12:1-2; Jos.1:8 and Ps.1:1-3. When the soul is transformed, the person will bear the fruit of the Spirit. This will result in the transformation of the general conduct of the person from darkness to light. See Mat.7:15-20; Jn.1:4-5 and Gal.5:22-23. It is the bearing of the fruit of the Spirit that sets the believer in Christ apart from others. It is this new life that the entire world yearns for but they do not know how to get it because, like Nicodemus, they cannot comprehend the new birth experience.
If you want this new life, you can start to live it now by saying the following prayer in faith and then get baptized and begin to open up yourself to the word of God daily for the transformation of your soul:
Heavenly Father,
Have mercy on me a sinner. Today, I believe that Jesus died for me and you raised Him from the dead for my Justification. I therefore declare that Jesus Christ is my Saviour and Lord and from today, I renounce the fatherhood of Satan and embrace Jesus Christ as my Saviour and Lord. Thank you for this father in Jesus’ name! Amen.
