“…His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. And He was clothed in a vesture dipped in blood: and His name is called the word of God...” Rev. 19:11-16
Beloved family, I welcome you to this third month of our year of Divine Appointment which the Lord has graciously named for us: our month of the Word of God. Every time we pick up a bible, we immediately want to call it the word of God. This is because the bible is as light shining in the darkness of this wicked world in which we live. Whereas it is not out of place to refer to the bible as a compilation of the word of God, we would be more accurate to call it a compilation of the true account of events that occurred in the past, present and prophecy of events yet to unfold on earth.
However, the word of God is more than the book; He is a person. There are some accounts in the bible which did not report what God said; they were the opinion of other people even though those words were actually spoken. For instance; in the book of Job, we are told by Job that the Lord gave and the Lord took away what he gave. Even though Job actually said those words, God did not take away; it was the thief; the devil who came to kill, steal and destroy that which God gave to Job. Thus not every opinion in the bible was God’s. [Job 1:13-22 and Jn.10:10]. Some of the things spoken in the bible were the opinions of others whose understanding did not match up to God’s and therefore were not the truth. Thus referring to the bible as the word of God in its entirety could be misleading. It contains the word of God but the word of God is also a person. He is referred to by many names including Emmanuel [Mt.1:23]; meaning God with us, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords [1Tim.6:15; Rev.17:14 and Rev.19:16]
In John 1:1, we learn that in the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. In verse 14 of the same book and chapter, we learn that the Word became flesh. This is the true account of the incarnation of the Son of God who came to take on flesh so as to become the Son of man for the purpose of becoming sin for us so that we could be saved from Satan through His blood. See Col.1:14; Eph.1:7; Mt.17:9; Mt.20:28 and Mk.9:12.
Thus the Word of God is the same as the Son of man and the Son of God. [Mt.8:29 and Mt.16:16]. He is the one who gave His life for our redemption so that we could become one with Him in the spirit. This is why Apostle Paul taught that he that is joined to the Lord Jesus Christ, is one Spirit with him. See 1Cor.6:17. Through Baptism, we identify with Him and become one with Him in His death, burial and resurrection. Rm.6:4 and Col.2:12. The scripture teaches us that if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things are passed away and all things have become new. Thus becoming one with the word of God enables us to live the life that God has ordained for us to live and become who we were ordained to become. Thus this month, we shall be learning about who the word of God is and exercising our authority in Him. We shall see how to embrace and do the word of God so that we can enjoy the blessing that come with obedience to the word of God. Remember, only the doer of the word of God is blessed [Jas.1:22-25 and Mt.7:24-27]. It is my heart felt prayer that this month, God will release more grace on us to read, hear and do the word of God so that we can truly demonstrate spiritual fruitfulness in Jesus’ name [Jn.15:1-5 & vv.8, 16].
However, the first step we must take to live this way is the new birth. Thus anyone who has not taken this step should do so right away so as to qualify for this blessing of obedience. If you wish to do so, you can do it now by saying the following prayer out loud in faith and you will be born again:
Heavenly Father,Have mercy on me a sinner. Today, I believe that Jesus died for me and you raised Him from the dead for my Justification. I therefore declare that Jesus Christ is my Saviour and Lord and from today, I renounce the fatherhood of Satan and embrace Jesus Christ as my Saviour and Lord. Thank you for this father in Jesus’ name! Amen.
