Welcome to the month of May 2020: Our Month of Fellowship

Acts 2:44-47: “And all that believed were together, and had all things common;
And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need.
And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,
Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.
Blessed family, I welcome you to the Month of May which the Lord has graciously declared to us to be our Month of Fellowship. This word fellowship is defined as friendly association especially with people who share one’s interest. In many of his epistles to the Church, the Apostle Paul often parted with the greeting that the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with the Church group to which He addressed his letters.
In the early Church, we see the example of a fellowship of believers in the Lord Jesus Christ as God intended it from the beginning. We are taught in our text scripture that the people had all things in common. They were very united and their motives for their kindness to each other was the love of God in their midst. Each person made his contribution towards the general good because of the love of God in their hearts [Rm.5:5]. They each had an intimate fellowship with the Holy Spirit which eventually translated into their care for the welfare of each member of the body.
Thus the first thing that made any fellowship meaningful was the kind of relationship each member had with God personally.
Therefore, this month of fellowship, I believe God wants us to awaken to Him with a greater intensity than ever so that we can relate with each other with more genuine motives than ever before. Please understand that the closer each of us get to God and relate with Him, the better we would relate with each other in our Church gatherings. The circumstances we have all found ourselves lately resulting in the lockdown of the nations of the world should be seen as our opportunity to fellowship with the Holy Spirit with greater intensity than ever.
As a matter of fact, this word was given to me by the Lord last year before we knew about Covid 19. Yet, it comes in handy at this time to show that God cannot be taken by surprise. We can thus take advantage of this period of lock down to intensify our individual personal walk with God and increase in our knowledge of Him. This is the opportunity for each of us to begin to ensure that we would turn out as vessels of honour meet for the master’s use. In 2Timothy 2:19-22, we learn that in a great house are many vessels; some to honour and some to dishonour. Also, that if a man purifies himself, he shall be a vessel of honour meet for the master’s use. This time of lockdown is an opportunity for each of us to pay the price of separation to God for Him to help us purify our lives and make us vessels of honour meet for His use. Then we can effectively fellowship with one another in such a way that we can together build up the House of God which we are into a holy temple meet for the master’s use.
In light of the foregoing, this month, we shall be looking at the theme: Cultivating friendship with the Holy Spirit. When we succeed in doing this, it would help us in our dealings with each other. Then over time, it would be evident to all observing us from outside that God actually sent the Lord Jesus Christ. See John 17:20-21; 1Jn.1:6-9 and 2Cor.13:14.
In addition to the foregoing, it is now evident that all who belong to the Church of God through genuine fellowship with the Holy Spirit are exempt from the fear that the thief has plagued the world with because God has not given us the Spirit of fear but of power, love and a sound mind. See 2Tim.1:7 thus while the world quakes with fear and trembling because of what the devil is doing with sickness, The Church of God is enjoying the rest that only He can give.
Someone reading this blog now may be desiring this kind of rest because they are not saved. Dear reader, you can have it but it begins by your saying the following prayer out loud in faith and you will become a member of the body of Christ and join the communion with the Holy Spirit:
Heavenly Father,
Have mercy on me a sinner. Today, I believe that Jesus died for me and you raised Him from the dead for my Justification. I therefore declare that Jesus Christ is my Saviour and Lord and from today, I renounce the fatherhood of Satan and embrace Jesus Christ as my Saviour and Lord. Thank you for this father in Jesus’ name! Amen.
