Some Reasons why Every Believer should speak/pray in other tongues

Messages for June 2018: Our Month of the Holy Spirit
Message for Sunday 24th June, 2018
Theme: Understanding the Ministry and Gift of the Holy Spirit
Topic: Some Reasons why Every Believer should speak/pray in other tongues
Introduction: So far we have been learning a lot from this great theme of understanding the Ministry and Gift of the Holy Spirit. We have learnt who the Holy Spirit is and why He came. We also saw the gifts and the fruit of the spirit and we emphasized that while some of the gifts could be counterfeited by the enemy to deceive, the fruit of the spirit cannot be counterfeited because it is a bye product of cultivating the nature of God in us. Bearing the fruit of the spirit involves the cooperation of the believer in order to cultivate divine nature which is the real work of the believer cooperating with the word of God and the Holy Spirit in their lives. Today, we shall be looking at the bible to see some reasons why every believer must speak in other tongues.
Some reasons why every believer must speak in other tongues: In Acts 1:8 when the Lord promised us the gift of the Holy Spirit, He said we shall receive power after the Holy Spirit is come upon us and this power would enable us to become witnesses for him. When the Holy Spirit came, He brought us the power to be witnesses with the manifestation of speaking in other tongues for the following reasons among others:
1.     It is the initial proof that we have been filled with the Holy Spirit. See Acts 2:4; 10:44-46 and 19:1-6.
2.     It is a sign that a person believes in the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus promised in Mark 16:17 that certain signs would follow those that believe in Him and the first sign He mentions is that we would speak in new tongues. See Acts 2:4.
3.     It is God’s will for us because it provided the much needed intimacy with God that He has always desired to have with us. See 1Cor.14:5 and 28.
4.     Tongues is for spiritual edification. In any situation you find yourself, pray in tongues and your spirit by the Holy Spirit will rise up to the occasion to deliver divine results to you. See 1Cor.14:2 and 4, Jude 1:20 and 1Thess.5:17.
5.     Tongues keep us in constant remembrance of the Holy Spirit’s indwelling presence. This affects the way we live our lives and enables us to maintain a spiritual environment of the cool of the day like Adam first had with in the Garden. See Gen.3:8 and Jn.14:16-17. When we live fully conscious of God’s presence, we honor him and if we do so, God would honor us in return. See 1Sam.1:30 and Jn.12:26.
6.     Praying in tongues is how the Holy Spirit empowers us to pray when we do not know what we should pray for as we ought. As our helper, a major help we get from the Holy Spirit is the help we get in prayer when we do not know what we should pray for as we ought. See Rm.8:26 and 1Cor.14:14.
7.     Praying in tongues stimulates faith. It enables us to stay in the fullness of the spirit and walk in the supernatural. Eph.5:18-19 teaches us to stay full of the Holy Spirit and not be sensual. See Jude 1:20 and Philippians 3:3.
8.     Praying in tongues keeps us free from worldliness. See 1Cor.14:27-28 and 2 and 1Cor.2:11. Here you will learn the distinction between giving a message in tongues and praying in tongues. In the former case, the message would have to be interpreted by either the one who gives it or another person in the place with the gift of interpretation. See 1Cor.14:12-13.
9.     Praying in tongues is the Supernatural therapy for cleansing and release. Praying by the Holy Spirit within us empowers us for Holy living because He is Holy. God in turn energizes us to live holy for Him. Rm.8:26; 1Cor.14:14 and 1Cor.2:11-16.
10.                         Praying in tongues enables us to pray for the unknown. It provides a means of praying about issues no one thinks about or even knows. Thus praying through us for things which no one thinks about or even knows. It even has the ability to expose and destroy all the secret evil done against you by the wicked. See Rm.8:26.
11.                        Praying in tongues gives refreshing. See Isa.28:11-12.  The rest and refreshing referred to in this passage of scripture is praying in unknown tongues.
12.                        Tongues enables us to give thanks properly. Sometimes we are so grateful to God that the mere chant of thank you would be insufficient to express ourselves. This is when this gift becomes necessary in our expression of gratitude. See 1Cor.14:16-17.
13.                        Speaking in tongues helps to tame the tongue. This is a giant step towards fully yielding our body to the Holy Spirit for His use because the greatest discipline we can express is that of our tongue. When we are able to discipline our tongues, we can protect our lives thereby. See Jas.3.
14.                        This is the means by which we use our little faith to operate the great faith of God. 1Cor.14:2 and Mk.11:22-23.
We shall stop here for today; but please let me emphasize that the Holy Spirit is only given as a gift by God to the redeemed. If you are not born again yet you are not redeemed but I have good news for you; you can get born again right away by saying the following prayer out loud in faith and you will be born again. If you want to, you can take the step right away by saying the following prayer out loud in faith and you will be saved:
Heavenly Father,
Have mercy on me a sinner. Today, I believe that Jesus died for me and you raised Him from the dead for my Justification. I therefore declare that Jesus Christ is my Saviour and Lord and from today, I renounce the fatherhood of Satan and embrace Jesus Christ as my Saviour and Lord. Thank you for this father in Jesus’ name! Amen.

Satan’s weapon for trying to stop the move of the Holy Spirit

Messages for June 2018: Our Month of the Holy Spirit
Message for Wednesday 20th June, 2018
Theme: Understanding the Ministry and Gift of the Holy Spirit
Topic: Satan’s weapon for trying to stop the move of the Holy Spirit
Introduction: So far we have been learning a lot from this great theme of understanding the ministry and gift of the Holy Spirit. We have seen why the Holy Spirit came and who He is and how we can take advantage of this great blessing of God to us. However, this series would be incomplete without looking at this great topic which has a potential to waste all of our efforts to fulfil God’s plan for our lives if we do not understand and address it.
We have seen different moves of God being arrested or stopped altogether by this evil distraction of the devil. I want to call it Satan’s triplet weapon against the Church; they are slander, gossip and offense. He is able to do this if he can get carnal believers in the Church to provoke strife and if the elders do not arrest the strife in time, he could introduce envy and when strife and envy get married, their children are confusion and every evil work. When these are in place, the Holy Spirit will have to leave otherwise His continued presence there would result in incidence like the Ananias and Sapphira one in Acts 5.
Strife:  what does strife mean? Strife is defined as exertion or contention for superiority; lack of agreement or harmony; bitter conflict. From these definitions, we can see that strife is manifested in competition usually about vain glory. Anywhere you have strife, you cannot have peace because of the discord that exists there.
What the bible says about strife:
The first account of strife in the bible was about Abraham and Lot’s herd men. This happened in a family as you would observe. Gen.13:6-8. We learn a lesson from Abraham here when he told Lot that there should be no strife between them. He instead took the high way of letting Lot win the fight by telling him to choose where he wanted to relocate to before he made his choice. As soon as Lot left God came down to speak with Abraham. See Gen.14:13-18. This was where Lot truncated his destiny. The end of Lot was the destruction of the land he chose and incest resulting in him fathering his daughters’ children. There is no future for a person holding on to strife. Abraham on the other hand immediately heard God’s voice giving him clear direction for his life again. He moved on with God and Lot lost God’s presence forever.
Strife cost Moses his place in being able to enter the Promised Land because the strife made him disobey God when he struck the rock instead of speaking to it at Meribah. See Num.27:12-14 and Ps.106:32.
There is the strife of tongues: When there is this kind of issue, we are taught in the bible to pray that God will protect us from the strife of tongues. Ps.31:20 – the reason for this is that when we speak ill of others we are killing them with our tongues. Thus anyone who has been speaking ill of others have blood in their hands just like a murderer has especially if those contents being spoken or spread are lies. As a matter of fact when the words are lies, the person speaking such things have entered willingly into the thresh hold of witchcraft. This explains what Apostle Paul was saying in Gal.5:18-20 that people who live like this have no inheritance in the Kingdom of God and Christ.
When we strive, our enemies rejoice because they laugh among themselves in mockery of us knowing that that strife has made us like them [Ps.80:6]. This is why it is honorable that we take the first step to stop the strife so that we can walk in the footsteps of our father Abraham like God tells us to do in Isa.51:1-2. See Prov.20:3. He is the only person God tells us to look up to. The other person we are to look up to is Jesus Christ [Heb.12:2]. When His disciples strove among themselves as to who souls be the greatest in the Kingdom, He gracefully told them about His servant leadership. When James and John tried to display power just like the power displayed by Elijah in calling fire down on people, He told them that that was not the manner of spirit of which they were made. In other words, even when people strive with you, do not react in strive, respond in love because the Son of man came not to destroy men’s lives, He came to seek and save that which was lost. See Lk.9:51-56 and Lk.19:10.
At the root of strife is hatred: The antidote for this kind is to walk in love because love covers all sins. See Prov.10:12 and Jn.13:34-35; 15:16-21 and 1Jn.2:9-11. How do you walk in love? 1Cor.13:4-8 tells us in the amplified bible translation. Until we bear the fruit of love, our faith in God is really questionable.
Strife is a work of the flesh and proof of an unbroken life: The problem with strife is that if it is not arrested in time, it will result in envy and where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. In essence, strife gives Satan the legal access into people’s lives. It has the ability of wrecking families and institutions. It is a no good to any people at any level of life. See Gal.5:19-20 and 1Cor.3:3
Strife is stirred up by pride: Pride is what makes people compete with each other to outdo each other. The result is that it magnets envy into the life of those who would not let go of it and where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. Prov.28:25; Isa.58:4 and Jas.3:13-18; 4:1-17.
Result of strife:
1.     Spiritual blindness: Strife is a proof of hatred existing in the heart of another person. The bible teaches in 1Jn.2:10-11 that anyone who hates his brother is blind and cannot see afar off. Such a person does not even know God. Thus any hatred that resides in a person’s heart towards anyone makes that person culpable and the next thing it would result in is that the person will always strive with whoever they hate. This is however without prejudice to a person making effort to live in peace by avoiding the person stirring up strife. This is the example Abraham left us in the matter of Lot in Gen.13. Just in the previous chapter they started to take the journey together but the next chapter; as soon as Lot got some financial prosperity, he began to strive with Abraham. To avoid this, Abraham had to put Lot away and the strife ceased. See Prv.22:10 and 24:9.
2.     Attracts envy: When envy mixes with strife, confusion and every evil work is born into the situation and this is particularly dangerous especially for people handling any kind of leadership responsibility because it can create roots of bitterness that has the potential of defiling many people. Jas.3:14-16; Heb.12:14-17.
3.     It can result in the abortion of destiny: One of the evil work brought about by strife is slander and this is spread by gossip resulting in offence of the injured party. Many occasions where slander is spread, they are not true; even if there were some truths in what is said, they are distorted to suit the intent of the person from which the slander is originating and this is actually murder taking place and there are dire consequences for this. Some people never find their places in destiny as a result. See the account of Amnon, Absalom and Tamar in 2Sam.13. Amnon was the heir apparent but could not handle the issue of lust for his sister Tamar so Satan sent Jonadab his cousin to encourage the lust in the unhealthiest manner and the end was the death of Amnon, Absalom, and desolation of Tamar.
4.     It can result in unfruitfulness: As long as one is walking in strife, the devil has access to their lives and the end is that he will get them involved in the unfruitful works of darkness and this will bring about their inability to become like Christ unless they repent sincerely and begin to walk in the word otherwise they would end up being judgmental and farther and farther away from God until the little image of Christ they had would be sunctured out of their lives and you do not want this. See the account of the tower of Babel where God frustrated rebellious man Himself in Gen.11:1-9.
5.     In extreme cases, it results in murder: This could be as a result of strife degerating to physical combats that may result in mortal injuries. Some husbands have killed their wives this way without meaning to do so. Some wives have poisoned their husbands to death without meaning to do so because of strife. In some other cases some people end up becoming suicidal like the case of Ahitophel See 2Sam.13; Prv.26:20-28.
6.     If not handled in love, it can create anger and bitterness: The only way to handle strife in love is to stop the strife, forgive, avoid the source of strife and move on.
Solution to strife:
1.     Walk in love – Love is not easily angered so you can be patient enough to give another person a chance of being fairly heard. Fair hearing can really change a lot of things. It takes patience to hear another especially when you are offended already. See Jn.17:20-23; Jn.15:17-19; 1Cor.13:4-8 amp and Gal.5:16-22.
2.     Avoid divisive people – Apostle Paul says to mark those who cause division among us and avoid them. Rm.16:17-20; Philip.3:17-21.
3.     Do not be friends with people who strive – the bible tells us not to be deceived to think that we can still maintain our purity being friends with bad people. See 1Cor.15:33; Prv.13:20 and Ps.1:1-3
4.     Do not encourage gossip: When people bring you stories even of those who hurt you, even if you have to respond, do it with God’s perspective. This would not be easy, this is the reason you need to be prayerful. In the place of prayer, you draw strength from God called grace. Then you meditate on the word of God teaching us love. Prov.22:10 and 26:20
5.     Organize your life around God’s purpose: Follow God’s word and ways every day and you would just find out that people who bring contention would begin to avoid you. They are usually people not going anywhere. So you would be good company for them when you are not going anywhere. If they bring you any tale, call the person being slandered and let them repeat what they are accusing you of in their presence. If they refuse, tell them not to visit you again but you can still greet with them along the way but never have any relationship with them close enough for them to defile you again with their lies. See Prov.29:18
6.     Avoid slanderers: The reason is that tale bearers can separate chief friends and friendship that is productive is of God. Check the people you call your friends; to what extent are they encouraging you to be productive. Also check yourself; to what extent are you making others around you to be productive?
7.     Become a disciple of Jesus Christ: Only disciples can bear the fruit of the spirit because until a corn of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it abides alone. When you learn to live the crucified life, you will bear much fruit and glorify God thereby. The demands of discipleship is spelt out by the Lord in Lk.9:23-26 and Jn.12:24-26.
We shall draw the curtain here for today. The conclusion of this message is that we become genuine followers of the Lord Jesus Christ. To become a true follower we have to start with the new birth and then a commitment to discipleship to become more like Jesus Christ by the day. You can start the journey by saying the following prayer out loud in faith and the Holy Spirit will come to help you:
Heavenly Father,
Have mercy on me a sinner. Today, I believe that Jesus died for me and you raised Him from the dead for my Justification. I therefore declare that Jesus Christ is my Saviour and Lord and from today, I renounce the fatherhood of Satan and embrace Jesus Christ as my Saviour and Lord. Thank you for this father in Jesus’ name! Amen.

Steps to receiving the Holy Spirit

Messages for June 2018: Our Month of the Holy Spirit
Message for Sunday 17th June, 2018
Theme: Understanding the Ministry and Gift of the Holy Spirit
Topic: Steps to receiving the Holy Spirit
Introduction: So far, we have seen who the Holy Spirit is and why He came.  However, all we have learnt about the Holy Spirit would be merely theoretical if we do not know Him in our personal experiences. Therefore, my business today is to show you how you can know the Holy Spirit in your experience.
The following steps when taken sincerely will help anyone seeking the Holy Spirit to really know Him in their personal experience:
1.     Receive Jesus Christ as your Saviour and Lord: If you do so, you will become saved and therefore a child of God. This is what qualifies you for the gift of the Holy Spirit. When the first converts after the Holy Spirit came on the day of Pentecost sought to know how to be saved, Peter told them to repent and be baptized and they would receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. See Acts 2:36-39. The reason for this demand is that the Lord had said that the world cannot receive the Holy Spirit; only those who would submit to be discipled by Him would qualify for this great gift. Thus you have to receive Jesus Christ as your Saviour to get saved and then as your Lord making you a disciple of His to qualify you to be able to receive Him because the world cannot receive Him. See Jn.14:15-18; Acts 2:37-39.
2.     Desire the blessing: For one to receive this blessing, we must have a strong desire for it comparable to a thirst we have for water that can only be sated by taking water. See Jn.7:37-39; Mt.5:6 GNB and Lk.16:19-21. In our third text, we see the example of poor Lazarus whose only desire was to be fed the crumbs from the rich man’s table. All he got was that; he could not rise above His desire even though he served the same God as Abraham who was very rich and blessed in all things. So when you sincerely desire the gift of the Holy Spirit, God will not deny you.
3.     Embrace the four “R”s for the infilling:  These are terms used to represent four things you must do beginning with the letter R to be filled with the Holy Spirit. These four things are:
Renounce: As new believers, we must renounce the hidden things of darkness because failure to do so can cause people to participate in the unfruitful works of darkness which can make their faith to become ineffective or unfruitful. See 2Cor.4:2; Eph.5:11-12 and Gal.5:18-20.
This means to disown, separate and depart completely from concealed, private and inward things of dishonesty like all known sin especially sin involving witchcraft, ancestor worship, worship of idols, Ouija boards, sorcery, tarot cards, tea leaves, fortune telling or tellers, charms, amulets and such like. You have to consciously renounce the unfruitful works of darkness like the early Church fathers got the new converts to do in Acts 19:18-19. From Acts 5:32 and Jn.14:15-16.
Relax: Being tense when we anticipate this blessing is quite understandable considering the fact that the experience is all new to us. If you are tense however, it would hinder you from receiving. When you relax physically, it will enable you to relax spiritually and emotionally and make it easy for you to receive this precious blessing. The peace and calm of God is a great environment of your mind where you can receive the Holy Spirit. See Jn.14:27 and Jn.15:11.
Receive: Since the day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit has been here so we do not need to wait to receive Him anymore; we simply do it now by faith knowing is near us and ready to fill us. In Lk.11:13, we learn that if we know how to give good gifts to our children, much more God would give good gifts to his children who ask him. Some people believe that they may receive a wrong spirit. The truth is that if it is God you asked the Holy Spirit from, you will receive only the Holy Spirit and no other. You have to go to an evil spirit to receive the evil. God is a good God. See Exod.34:5-7; Mt.19:17; Mk.10:18 and Dan.9:4.
Respond: In Acts 2:4 when the disciples were first filled with the Holy Spirit, they began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance. This is the gate way to the power we just received. Isaiah in the Old Testament prophesied of this in Isa.28:11 saying that God will speak to His people with stammering lips and another tongue.
We shall draw the curtain here today and next week, we will continue by looking at the gifts and fruit of the spirit of the recreated human. Meanwhile, like we saw earlier, the first step to receiving this great gift is to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. If you want to do so now, you can by saying the following prayer out loud in faith and you will be born again:
Heavenly Father,
Have mercy on me a sinner. Today, I believe that Jesus died for me and you raised Him from the dead for my Justification. I therefore declare that Jesus Christ is my Saviour and Lord and from today, I renounce the fatherhood of Satan and embrace Jesus Christ as my Saviour and Lord. Thank you for this father in Jesus’ name! Amen.

Why the Holy Spirit came

Messages for June 2018: Our Month of the Holy Spirit
Message for Sunday 10th June, 2018
Theme: Understanding the Ministry and Gift of the Holy Spirit
Topic: Why the Holy Spirit came
Introduction: Last week, we began to look at why the Holy Spirit came. In other words, we began to look at the purpose of God sending His Spirit to us on earth. So far, we already established what some of the ministries of the Holy Spirit are on earth today. We first established that He brings us the conviction; He convicts the world of sin, righteousness and judgement. He shows us things to come, empowers us to know and do ministry and enhances our spiritual capacity. Today, we shall continue by looking at other reasons the Holy Spirit came and God willing, we shall continue by looking at His fruit.
Why the Holy Spirit came:  In addition to what we saw last week, the following are some more of the reasons why the Holy Spirit came:
1.     He teaches us all things: This cuts across all subjects of human endeavors. This is why no believer in Christ has any excuse whatsoever for mental blockage. However, for you to be able to comprehend Him, you have to be spiritually minded. This is why we must develop our souls to submit to our spirits to be able to be taught by Him. See Jn.14:26; 1Cor.2:12-14 and Rm.8:5-8.
2.     He guides us into all truths: This means that anything we need to know the truth about, the Holy Spirit is right on hand to reveal it to us. This covers every area of life. The good thing about this all is that the anointing of the Holy Spirit is not only for preachers and preaching, it is for the manifestation of the power of God in every area of life. Inventors need the anointing, teachers in any subject that would benefit humanity need the anointing and so does anyone in any profession in life. For instance in Exodus 25, we see the example of Bezaleel and Aholiab who were chosen by God and anointed with the skill of builders to help Moses build the temple in the wilderness. In the book of Genesis 41:37-43, we see the example of Joseph who was anointed by God to bring solution to the famine crises in the world of his time. Further we see the example of Daniel who was anointed to wield political influence in Babylon spanning a period of about seventy years and whose influence I believe saw the visit of the Maggi to the Lord when He was a young child. He guides us with his word, through dreams, visions and the inward witness and more. More can be said here but let us see Jn.16:13; Mt.1:18-25; 2:11-12; Exod.31:1-6 and Dan.1:8, 19-21.
3.     He enhances our memories: One of the things the Holy Spirit would do for us is to remind us of things we have been taught in the word when the need arises. I have also discovered that the Holy Spirit reminds us of where we kept our missing items thereby saving us from embarrassments when the need arises. See Jn.14:26
4.     He helps us to pray the will of God: He helps us to pray the perfect will of God because He is the one who knows the mind of God more than anyone. He does this for us in groans and sighs which cannot be uttered in articulate speech. See 1Cor.2:11 and Rm.8:26.
5.     He helps us to give thanks to God well: Thanksgiving is our divine protocol of access to God in prayer and the means of finalizing our prayers to God. Therefore, it is of utmost importance for us to do it properly. The Holy Spirit helps us to do it in the manner God finds most appropriate. 1Cor.14:16-17.
6.     He encourages us when we are tempted to be discouraged: This is why He is called the encourager or comforter. He does this by showing us things to come or bringing to our remembrance the things the Lord had told us before to lift up our spirits. We would thus be strengthened to continue as we would have something to look forward to. Jn.16:13
7.     He enables us to bear the fruit of the spirit: He enables us to bear the fruit of the spirit. From Acts 1:8, we understand that being a witness is who you are and not necessarily what you do. It is who you are that would dictate what you do. The fruit you bear as a believer shows who you are. See Jn.13:34-35; 1Jn.4:7=8 and Gal.5:22-23.
We shall draw the curtain here today. More would be said on this in the course of this week so that we may all take advantage of this great gift of God to us. Meanwhile, if you are reading this blog but are not born again yet, you have to make that choice right away because for you to read up to this point means you are interested and if you are, I want to encourage you to take advantage of this insight right away so that you can immediately begin to benefit from this free gift of God to humanity. If you want to do this now please say the following prayer out loud in faith and you will be born again at once:

Heavenly Father,
Have mercy on me a sinner. Today, I believe that Jesus died for me and you raised Him from the dead for my Justification. I therefore declare that Jesus Christ is my Saviour and Lord and from today, I renounce the fatherhood of Satan and embrace Jesus Christ as my Saviour and Lord. Thank you for this father in Jesus’ name! Amen.

Who the Holy Spirit is and why He is on earth today

Messages for June 2018: Our Month of the Holy Spirit
Message for Sunday 3rd June, 2018
Theme: Understanding the Ministry and Gift of the Holy Spirit
Topic: Who the Holy Spirit is and why He is on earth today
Introduction: once again, I welcome you to the month of June 2018: Our month of the Holy Spirit. In this month, we are going to be examining this great subject of the Holy Spirit with the intent of enabling us to understand how to walk with Him to fulfill our individual and corporate destinies. We are so thankful to God that we are not left in the dark as to who He is and what His mission to us on earth is. To this end, today, we shall be looking at who the Holy Spirit is and why He is on earth today.
Who the Holy Spirit is:
The answer to the question of who the Holy Spirit is seeks to clarify who He is and ease us of the confusion that has been generated by the devil for centuries over the human race to steal from them, kill and destroy them. The following is therefore a list of some truths that show us who the Holy Spirit is:
1.     He is God. He is the first of the Godhead the bible mentions. He is coequal with the Father and the Son. See the amplified version of Gen.1:26 & Gen.1:2. See also Mt.28:19; 3:16-17 and 1Jn.5:7.
2.     He is the Lord: Compare Ezek.36:22-26 with Heb.10:15-17.
3.     He is the Spirit of Christ: 1Pet.1:11 and Romans 8:9
4.     He is the Spirit of Truth: Jn.16:13 and Jn.15:36.
5.     He is another Comforter in place of Jesus Christ: This word comforter has its root in the Greek word Parakletos which means an intercessor, a consoler, an advocate and a comforter. Whereas allos is also from the Greek root word which means another of the same kind. See Jn.14:15-16.
6.     He is the promise of the Father: The father through the laws and the Prophets had promised the day of the Holy Spirit for so long that the people were now so used to calling Him the promise of the father. Acts 1:4-5 in the Amplified version of the bible.
7.     The comforter: The word translated comforter is the same word as intercessor, strengthener, advocate, standby etc. Jn.14:26 of the Amplified Bible translation.
8.     The teacher: He is the greatest teacher in the universe. If He teaches you anything, you cannot forget it and He will give you understanding. 1Jn.2:27 and Cor.2:12-14.
9.     He is referred to as a person in the male gender in Jn.16:7-14
10.                         He is co-equal with the Father and the Son and shares the same nature: This truth is brought out clearly in Matthew’s account of the Baptism of the Lord in Matthew 13:16-17, the story of the creation in Genesis 1:26 citing the Amplified version of the Bible especially.
Why is the Holy Spirit on Earth?
In other words, what is the Holy Spirit on earth to accomplish? The Holy Spirit is the principal Executive of God’s program on Earth today. He is here to accomplish the following for mankind generally and the Church in particular:
1.     Conviction: None of us humans were physical witnesses of the Lord when He walked on the sands of time like His disciples were but God wanted us to testify on His behalf so He came in the person of the Holy Spirit who knows it all to dwell in us and enable us to be able to speak on behalf of the Lord with conviction. He thus convicts the world of sin, righteousness, and judgement. His conviction will enable a sinner to repent; it would enable a person who repents to know that they are now righteous and enables the world to know that the enemy of our souls has been defeated and judged. See Jn.16:7-11.
2.     He enhances our spiritual capacity: Spiritual truths are too high for natural man. For us to be able to comprehend spiritual truths we must become spiritual. It is the business of the Holy Spirit to help us become spiritual so that He can teach us and lead us. Jn.16:12-13 and 1Cor.2:14.
3.     He reveals the future to us: This enables us to know the plans and purposes of God for our lives and we then align ourselves to it. There is nothing better than knowing God’s blue print for our lives. Jn.16:13.
4.     He empowers us to know and do Ministry: Having accomplished His mission in the first coming, the Lord was about to ascend to heaven; He called His disciples together and gave them some last minute instruction in Acts 1:4 thus:
“And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.”
See also Acts 1:8 where He clarified the reason He gave them the instruction to wait for the promise of the father.
We shall draw the curtains here today even though there is more to say on this topic. We shall continue speaking about why the Holy Spirit came next week God willing. Meanwhile, anyone reading this blog that is not yet born again cannot receive the Holy Spirit because He is sent to the Church and to become a part of the body of Christ, you must be born again. If you want to take this plunge, please say the following prayer out loud in faith and you will be born again and eligible to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit:
Heavenly Father,
Have mercy on me a sinner. Today, I believe that Jesus died for me and you raised Him from the dead for my Justification. I therefore declare that Jesus Christ is my Saviour and Lord and from today, I renounce the fatherhood of Satan and embrace Jesus Christ as my Saviour and Lord. Thank you for this father in Jesus’ name! Amen.
