January 2018: Our Month of The word
of God
Message for Wednesday 3rd
January, 2018
Theme: Exploring the Word of God
Topic: what the word is and Levels of the word
Introduction: once again
I welcome you to our year of divine visitation. This year you will experience
the turnaround visitation of the Lord that would turn your mourning into
dancing and your wilderness into a fruitful garden. This year, God will visit
you like He did Sarah and make you to laugh and cause others to come and laugh
with you in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
We shall start off today introducing this great
topic by looking at what the word is and the various levels of the word of God.
What the word of God is: The Oxford dictionary defines the word as the word of God or the Bible.
We can conclude here that the word is what God says which has been encapsulated
in the bible and the word is God. By the second definition, we can say that the
word of God is a person. The bible shows us clearly who that person is and that
person is the Lord Jesus Christ. See Jn.1:1-14; Col.1:16-18; Jn.5:39 and Rev.19:9-16.
How man gained access to the word of God: After man sinned against God, people fell short
of the glory of God and therefore lost access to Him. The result is that man
became hopeless and without God in the world. See Eph.2:12; Rm.3:23.
In time, people began to press for more intimate
relationships with God and began to hear from God and be led by Him. But it was
not the same as before the fall. Over time, through divine revelation, people
began to understand how to relate with God and walk in his ways. A good example
from the Old Testament is Enoch who walked with God in such intimacy to the
point that God took him without his having to die physically. These men were
known as holy men of God. The bible which we call the word of God is a
compilation of the revelation given by God to these Holy men and women and
preserved for us to learn from. See
Another means by which man gained access to God
is through His Son Jesus Christ who speaks to us in these last days.
Hebrews
1:1-3 says:
“God, who at sundry times and in divers manners
spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,
Hath in these
last days spoken unto us by his
Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the
worlds;
Who being the
brightness of his glory, and
the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his
power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of
the Majesty on high;”
The
last days began on the day of Pentecost in Acts 2:1-4 when the Church of Jesus
Christ was born. Since that day, people can gain access to God through His
Church because the Church is the body of Christ and whenever the Church speaks,
Christ is speaking to the world because you cannot separate a person from his
body. Whenever Christ is speaking, God is speaking as well. See Eph.1:22-23
In fact, the whole bible is a prophecy; that is why the apostle
Peter refers to it as the more sure word of prophecy. In 2Peter 1:19, we read:
“We have also a more sure word of prophecy;
whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark
place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:”
LEVELS OF THE WORD OF GOD: There
are two levels of the word of God namely LOGOS (which is the written word that
has been packaged as the bible. This is the first level of the word we must
operate faithfully to grow to the next level of word) and RHEMA, which is the
word of God spoken directly to your heart for the now. For instance, there are
certain decisions you will need to make like where to work or reside that are
not clearly stated in the written word. God can still speak to you about such
things and all the time, the decisions He leads you to make will never contradict
the principles of the written word. See 2Tim.3:16-17
So if you receive any “rhema” that contradicts the logos in
principle, that word is null to the extent of its contradiction; you cannot
call it a word from God indeed! Rhema refers to the word of God revealed to the
individual directly by God. This word will however never contradict the written
word like we have already seen. In Romans 10:17 the Bible says: “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the
word of God.”
I like the way a man of God puts this text. He says; ‘’so then faith cometh by hearing and
understanding a word of God.” In other words when you hear the word of God,
you come to a place of comprehension. When you can comprehend what the word is
saying to you directly as an individual, taking the scripture not out of context;
but in context; in the sense that whatever you understand from the scripture
will not contradict any principle of scriptures; then you have come to place of
having faith.
You cannot base faith on the mere letters of the word. The Bible
says the letter killeth but the Spirit giveth life (2Cor.3:6). You base your
faith on the revealed word of God to you and that revealed word is the rhema.
So your faithfulness in following the logos (the word of God revealed to holy
men of God and packaged in the Bible) would enable God entrust you with the
rhema. If God does not reveal the word to you, you cannot see it [see Isa.2:1].
This is because the natural man cannot receive the things of the Spirit of God
as a result of the limitations placed on him by the five senses. Our physical
senses can only relate with the material world. They are ignorant of the
existence of the spirit world from where God’s word originates because God is a
Spirit (see 1Cor.2:13-14 & Jn.4:23-24). The good news however is that, God
wants to reveal his word to you more you want to know it.
For want of time and space, we would draw the curtain here but
someone is reading this that is yet to respond in faith to the gospel of
salvation. If you are that person, you can choose to respond right away by
saying the following prayer out loud in faith and you will be born again:
Heavenly Father,
Have mercy on me a sinner. Today, I believe that Jesus
died for me and you raised Him from the dead for my Justification. I therefore
declare that Jesus Christ is my Saviour and Lord and from today, I renounce the
fatherhood of Satan and embrace Jesus Christ as my Saviour and Lord. Thank you
for this father in Jesus’ name! Amen.
