Welcome to the month of November 2018: Our Month of Gratitude and Praise

Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise: Be thankful unto Him, and bless His name. Ps.100:4
This evening during our Bible study, I raised a few questions regarding God’s benevolence which some people tend to take for granted because of how easy and freely God has made them available to us. I asked the Church how many of them had ever had to pay to breathe since the day they were born and no one had ever had to buy oxygen.
As I kept poking them with more of these kind of questions, they all admitted that God had been indeed faithful. I believe God gave us this word for the month more because of His interest in enhancing the quality of our lives than just in us coming with gratitude and praise to Him.
As I look through this year in retrospect however, I cannot but observe how faithful the Lord has been to us in blessing and keeping us. So many storms raged against us this month yet the Lord in His faithfulness blessed us with victory and enabled us to move on with life lessons for our encouragements and improvements.
When I look around at the economic hardship in our country and how God has shielded us from its harsh effects, we can only burst out with exceeding great joy as we meditate on the faithfulness of God and How He has helped us to do even better than we have been.
To top it all, the Lord gave us a revelation of His love and how to walk in it and now we have a brand new Church of hearts willing and ready to serve divine purpose through His love. It has indeed been great doing the word of God in walking in love. As we enter into the last but one month of the year, I believe as we tidy up our preparation for next year, the time is ripe to really understand thanksgiving, praise and worship. As a matter of fact, this is a major key of the kingdom as it has the multiple effects of unlocking our access into God’s court and eventually His presence. When we access His presence we tend to enjoy fullness of His joy and at His right hand, we enjoy His pleasures forever. Many occasions when we hear worship leaders come to lead praise and worship, one gets disappointed when we do not see the flow from thanksgiving to praise and then to worship. You cannot just come from the streets into worship without first wetting the ground with thanksgiving and praise before progressing into worship. In light of this misunderstanding, we shall be looking at a theme I title: understanding the Mystery of thanksgiving, Praise and Worship. It is my heart felt prayer that by the time the month of November is rounding off we would all be able to tell the difference between these great keys of the kingdom and be able to engage them to our benefits and the glory of God.
Meanwhile someone may be reading this blog today and is yet to make Jesus Christ the Lord of their lives. The first key of the Kingdom of God is actually repentance. The proof of repentance is the persuasion of a person to the salvation of their soul through the New Birth experience. If you are that person and desire this great blessing, you may say the following prayer out loud by faith and you will become born again. If you choose to, you can say the following prayer out loud in faith and you will be immediately be born again by the activity of the Holy Spirit:
Heavenly Father,
Have mercy on me a sinner. Today, I believe that Jesus died for me and you raised Him from the dead for my Justification. I therefore declare that Jesus Christ is my Saviour and Lord and from today, I renounce the fatherhood of Satan and embrace Jesus Christ as my Saviour and Lord. Thank you for this father in Jesus’ name! Amen.

How to know that the voice you are hearing is God’s

Messages for October 2018: Our Month of Divine Lights
Message for Sunday 28th October, 2018
Theme: Hearing and Following the voice of God.
Topic: How to know that the voice you are hearing is God’s
Introduction: So far from the beginning of this Month, we have been endeavouring to strengthen our relationship with God by looking at How to hear and follow His voice because if we do not do this, all our faith would be tantamount to an exercise in futility because the reason God made us is for fellowship and if we are not hearing and following Him, there can be no real fellowship with Him.
We have seen so far that God wants to speaks to us and the various methods He has used to communicate with mankind over the years and His intention that when He speaks to us especially instructing us, we are to follow without misunderstanding Him.
Today, therefore, we shall be looking at how we can ascertain that the voice we hear is actually the voice of God.  I have here listed seven things we can look out for to enable us test the voice we hear to ensure that it is God’s voice.
1.     The voice of God carries peace with it. When we lose our peace over a voice we hear, we should pause because evil spirits are always in a hurry. If you wait long enough, you would discover that it was not God who spoke as the cover would be taken off by your patience. Remember, in Galatians 5:6, we are told that faith works by love and patience is the first manifestation of love. This is on the understanding that God’s voice is the basis of true faith as shown in Romans 10:17. See Phil. 4:6-7, Ps.85:8.
2.     The voice of God agrees with the Bible. All scripture is authored by the Holy Spirit and therefore the bible is the basis for testing any voice that claims to be the voice of God. Whatever you hear from God will never conflict with the principles of scriptures because the bible is the word of God that has been tried seven times and has come out flawless. See Ps.12:6; Isa.8:20; Jer.23:25-29; 2Tim.3:16 and 2Pet.1:19.
3.     The voice of the Lord does not encourage hastiness. Any voice you hear from God that promotes hastiness should be checked against what we have discussed in paragraph 1 above. See Isa.28:16 and Heb.6:12.
4.     The voice of the Lord does not release fear but faith in your heart. Every time God speaks, His voice shoots arrows of faith into your heart such that you are empowered to take faith actions that bear the fruits that can only be described as the hand of God at work. See Rm.10:17; 1Jn.4:18.
5.     The voice of the Lord releases joy in your heart. Every time God speaks to us, his voice settles us in such a way that our hearts become filled with joy because in His presence is fullness of joy. Jesus said things to His disciples that enabled their hearts to receive and be filled with joy. See Ps.16:11 and John 15:11.
6.     Whatever God says eventually comes to pass as He says it will. God always confirms what He says through others who are more experienced in the ways of God. This is why we are told in Isaiah 30:20-21 that God gives us teachers who we can see and through them, the Holy Spirit confirms the leadings of God for our lives. See Deut.8:21-22; Luke 21:33 and Matthew 24:30, 35. Lam.3:37 Note however that this is without prejudice to conditional promises which requires that we meet certain conditions before the word can be actualized. Once the demands are met, the fulfilment of God’s word in this case is absolutely certain. A good example is His promise to Israel in Deuteronomy 28.
7.     Finally, whatever God says, He confirms with signs and wonders: When the role of the Lord Jesus Christ was challenged by John the Baptist when he sent his disciples to ask the Lord whether he was the one to come or they should wait for another, Jesus’ response was to work signs and wonders right before the disciples and sent them back to John to tell him what they saw. This was the same with Moses when God called Him. God had to prove his call on Moses to the people He sent him to by signs and wonders.
The reason for this is that signs are a means by which God authenticates His message and messengers. Ex.3:1-22, Isa.44:26, Luk.7:19-23, John 5:36-37 and Acts 2:22.
In summation therefore, putting all we have done so far in this month together, we can say that God not only speaks but He wants to speak to us and it is His pleasure to do so. He also wants us to hear and know for certain that He is the one speaking to us.
However, this blessing is meant for those who have entered into the covenant relationship of the New Birth with the Lord. The bible says that Christ in you is the hope of glory and this mystery was hidden from the foundation of the world for our glory. They are not hidden from us but for us to be able to discover them. If you desire this new birth experience so as to take advantage of what God has given us, you can do so right away by saying the following prayer out loud in faith and you will be saved and granted access to the mysteries of God that would enable you manifest His glory on earth. When Jesus was about to round off His mission on earth, he said he had brought glory to God by fulfilling His purpose. See John 17:4. If you want to be able to say the same thing when the time comes, please say the following prayer out loud and God would honor your faith:
Heavenly Father,
Have mercy on me a sinner. Today, I believe that Jesus died for me and you raised Him from the dead for my Justification. I therefore declare that Jesus Christ is my Saviour and Lord and from today, I renounce the fatherhood of Satan and embrace Jesus Christ as my Saviour and Lord. Thank you for this father in Jesus’ name!
Amen.

Hearing God’s Voice for Direction as a family

Messages for October 2018: Our Month of Divine Lights
Message for Sunday 21st October, 2018
Theme: Hearing and Following the Voice of God
Topic: Family Life - Hearing God’s Voice for Direction
Author: Adetola Onadipe
Introduction:  Last week you were taught the different ways God speaks to His people. Today we will look at how we can take advantage of hearing God’s voice for direction as a family.
In an ideal family set up, the husband being the head of the family, should be the one to receive direction from the Lord about his family (Eph.5:23).   Considering the realities of life, it does not always go that way.  We do have single parent families and we also have individual member of the family set up at different levels of growth in their Christian faith.  Therefore every family member can hear the voice of God that will benefit the individual and the whole family.
Quiet Time/Devotion: This is a time that a believer sets aside to meet with God. It could be a specific time of the day (am or pm) or a particular day of the month. It is a time for us to draw near to God with no distractions, Jas.4:8.  By this we gain more knowledge about God and His Word.  The ultimate purpose is for us to know Him as we develop an intimate relationship with God.  This should be done consistently to have the desired impact, just like Jesus frequently set time apart to commune with His Father. Mat.26:36; Mark 1:35 and Luke 5:16.
What to do during Quiet Time/Devotion: Read the Bible/Devotional; Talk to God (Pray) - the prayer can be in all or any of the different types – praise, confession, thanksgiving, petition and intercession; Keep silence and ask God to speak (listening prayer); We write down what God lays in your heart.
It can be done individually and/or collectively as a family.  If it is done as a family it is usually called devotion.
Family devotions – a set time for parents and children to sit down, read the Bible and pray together. It is designed to build up each individual and establish a sense of unity and direction within families.  When parents establish a consistent personal quiet time, having family devotion becomes easy. Since parents are the mirror with which the children view life, our children tend to copy what they see and actively pursue a relationship with God.
Time Out:  We can go a step further by taking time out specifically to be alone with God for a day or two. See Luke 5:16; 6:12.  It will give you the opportunity to seek God with all your heart and get the direction in all your endeavours.
Benefits of Quiet Time/Devotion/Time Out
1.   It gives us the opportunity to cut off the ‘noise’ in our lives.
2.   It gives us time to read the Bible, meditate on it and spend time with God in prayer.
3.   Quieten yourself in God’s presence, listen and be willing to obey His instructions. When God speaks, He never goes against His written word in the Bible.
4.   He can always give directions to the family members individually or collectively.
5.   It brings families together and brings peace and harmony.
6.   In times of difficulty, each family member will know that they can look up to the Lord for direction/guidance through what He will tell them.
It is important to spend time with God in daily devotions, why?  Apostle Paul says in 2 Cor 4:6 “For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.”  The experience of having God’s light shine in our hearts comes when we consistently spend time in His presence (every day)
We shall draw the curtains here today for want of time. If you are yet to start hearing the voice of God because you are yet to make a commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ, this is your opportunity. You can start doing so right away by saying the following prayer out loud in faith and you will be born again and have access into God’s family. You can start hearing the father from today because your access is the repentance through the New Birth offered by God to us in the Lord Jesus Christ. You can say the following prayer out loud in faith and gain that access at once:
Heavenly Father,
Have mercy on me a sinner. Today, I believe that Jesus died for me and you raised Him from the dead for my Justification. I therefore declare that Jesus Christ is my Saviour and Lord and from today, I renounce the fatherhood of Satan and embrace Jesus Christ as my Saviour and Lord. How to hear the voice of God

Messages for October 2018: Our Month of Divine Lights
Message for Wednesday 17th October, 2018
Theme: Hearing and Following the voice of God.
Topic: How to hear the voice of God
Introduction: In the time which we live in, the need to hear the voice of God in order to be guided by Him in our daily lives cannot be over emphasized. This is why it is so important for us to hear his voice. Sadly, many hear without realizing it because Jesus said in John 10:27 that His sheep hear His voice. Also, we see from Ps.32:8 where God said He will instruct and teach us in the way we must go that it is God’s will to cause us to hear His voice.
In light of the foregoing, we shall examine four simple steps we must take to consciously receive the voice of God. These four steps are set out in Hab.2:1-3. That text reads thus in the King James Version of the bible:
“I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what He will say unto me and what I shall answer when I am reproved.
And the Lord answered me, and said, write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it;
For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie; though it tarry, wait for it because it will surely come, it will not tarry”
1.     Stillness: This is keeping still before God with absolute concentration and a determination to receive a revelation of your God given purpose from God or any other thing you may desire to know of the mind of God. A good example of this is found in the story of Elijah in 1Kings 19:9-21 in the Old Testament and Paul in the New Testament. Acts 9:1-20.
2.     Vision:  When God speaks, it paints a picture in the canvass of your mind. Where you have difficulty with comprehending this, God could even use something you can see physically to give you a vision because God works with what we can envision. This is the good use of the power of imagination God talks about in Gen.11:6. For example, God had to make Abram look at the sky to see and attempt to count the number of the stars in the sky until he lost count just to help him get a vision of how numerous his offspring will be even though he was said to be childless at that time and his wife Sarai was pronounced barren. See Gen.15:1-6.
3.     Spontaneity: The still voice of God that is not physically audible comes to you through a chain of spontaneous thoughts. You have no control over the thoughts. They just flow and when God is through with Speaking, they stop. This method God uses is also referred to as the flow because of the way it is received. There is no thought original with man. Thoughts are taken. This explains why Jesus said in Mat.6:25, 34 that we should not take thoughts that result in anxiety. These thoughts are words that are conveyed to the spirit of man which must first be picked by the soul. The spirit realm controls the physical one. This is why Paul says in Rm.8:14, 16 that as many as are led by the spirit of God are the sons of God. That the Spirit bears witness with our spirit that we are the sons of God. See 1Thessalonians 5:23 which makes us understand that man is spirit, soul and body. Your spirit is the real you made in the image and likeness of God and which departure from your body causes physical death as revealed to us in James 2:26. Your soul is the intermediary between your spirit and body and contains your mind (seat of memory and creativity), your will (seat of decision making), and your emotion (responsible for the direction of your will and general drive in life). Your body is the physical you made up of the five senses of the central nervous system – sight, smell, taste, touch and hearing. Whereas your body controlled by your physical senses had dictated the way you have lived as a natural man because of the separation of your spirit from God’s through the fall of Adam, now that you are born again, you have to retrain your body to follow the dictates of your spirit which is now led by the Holy Spirit as we saw earlier. This is the real battle of the new creation man. The only way we can win this war is to allow the word of God renew our minds to have the mindset God wants us to have. When this takes place, our wills and emotions would easily follow divine directives and cause our bodies to act accordingly. See Romans 12:1-2.
4.     Journaling: Then you move on to the next step which is journaling. If you try to understand everything God is telling you at the moment, you will lose concentration and may not be able to receive everything God is telling you so you journal for the duration of the flow of thought and later, you can read through what you journaled and you will get the true picture of what God is telling you. This is how the ancient prophets kept records of what they were told (see 2Tim.3:16-17; 2Pet.1:19-21). God exemplified this when He gave Moses the law he wrote on tables of stone and to tell you how important this was to God, when Moses in his anger at the behavior of the Israelites destroyed the tablets, God called him up to the mountain again and made him get two other tablets of stone and He wrote the same commandments on these new tablets of stone. You will find this account in Ex.24:12; 31:18; 34:4. Moses recalled these incidents in his final speech to the children of Israel packaged in Deut.5:22. I believe that the importance of journaling what God tells you cannot be overemphasized. This is why God commands us to write the vision and make it plain on tables so someone can read it and run with it. If what God told the ancient prophets in the past was not journaled, Peter would not have had a more sure word of Prophecy to refer to in 2Pet.1:19. For example, Jeremiah the prophet wrote down what God told him and more than seventy years later, Daniel read it and ran with it. It enabled him to pray for the freedom of the children of Israel from captivity. You will find these accounts in Jer.36 and Daniel 9:1-4. Even when in Jeremiah’s life time, the king tried to destroy the writings of Jerimiah, God caused him to preserve it by telling him to write another which Jeremiah did. See Jer.361-4 and 27-32.
Acknowledgement
In my studies on hearing and following the voice of God, I was challenged in 2010 by a message by Mark Vickler an American minister who through His teaching on hearing God's voice from the book of Hab.2:1-3 brought out this light so clearly that just using His method has yielded great fruits in getting people to be able to hear God's voice and I believe God wants everyone to Hear His voice and He is the only one who has the franchise on His word. However I must say a big thank you to Mark Vickler for making it easy for us to teach others to also hear God.  Flourish A. Nanna

God speaking today

Messages for October 2018: Our Month of Divine Lights
Message for Sunday 7th October, 2018
Theme: Hearing and Following the voice of God.
Topic: God speaking today
Introduction: If you ask most people in Church today what they find to be their greatest frustration, they would tell you what would sum up to either of two things namely that they are not getting answers to their prayers and secondly they cannot hear God for themselves. As a matter of fact, the struggle with sin has been at the head of the crisis of man since his fall from grace through Adam’s sin. However, it has been over two thousand years since the restoration of man to glory was realized through the death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. So why are people still so far away from God? The answer to this question is the ignorance of man. This is why God has named this month our Month of divine lights. In Jn.1:4-5, we learn that in Christ Jesus was life and that the life was the light of men. The word translated light here is knowledge. I believe it is knowledge acquired through the revelation of the Holy Spirit. This is why we are looking at this theme this month. The revelation of the Holy Spirit is given to us by God speaking to us. See 2Tim.3:16 and 2Pet.1:19-21.
Does God still speak today? The answer to this question is yes for the following reasons:
1.     God spoke in the past and He has said that He is the same yesterday, today and forever. Thus if He spoke in the past and He does not change as he said in Malachi 3:6, then He is still speaking today. See Heb.13:8.
2.     The bible is replete with examples of God speaking to people and things. In Genesis, God created the heavens and the earth through speaking to them. See Gen.1:1-3; Ps.33:6, 9.
·     When God wanted to destroy the earth during the time of Noah, He spoke to Noah about it for 100 years preceding the event. The rest is history. See Gen.5:32; 6:5-8, 17-22; 7:6 and Jer.22:29.
·    God spoke to Abraham in a vision concerning the slavery of his descendants in Egypt after his demise and that the slavery would last four hundred years. This came to pass as He spoke and even Joseph his great grandson believed the revelation and made the Children of Israel promise to go with his bones when the time came. True to God’s word, this came to pass as we all know. See Gen.15:13-18; 50:25; Exod.13:19; Jos.24:32 and Heb.11:22.
·       God spoke to Moses and the children of Israel.
·    God spoke to prophets of old like Samuel, Daniel, Moses, Jeremiah, Ezra, and Nehemiah etc. He spoke to some face to face by audible voice and visions. He spoke to others through planting ideas in their minds, some he spoke to by anointing them to carry out great feats on impulse. Neh.7:5; Jer.1:4-5, 1Sam.3:21 and Dan.2:19; 5:11-12.
·    God spoke to the early Church fathers through the Ministry of the Holy Spirit who spoke to them through the inner witness or His still small voice or even dreams and visions. Acts 2:2-4; 9:1-6; 11-16; 10:1-6; 9-20.
·      The entire book of Revelation is the encounter of John the beloved with God who spoke to Him face to face, by angelic visitation and by multiple visits to heaven and visions. Rev.1:1-3
3.     The reality of God speaking to people today is shown in the fruit of Churches being planted by His servants around the world. In Acts 2 during his preaching, Apostle Peter quoted the prophecy of prophet Joel saying that in these last days in which we live now, God will pour out His Spirit on all flesh resulting in mighty works for God on earth. So God will keep speaking to us forever. See Joel 2:28-32 and Acts 2:16-21.
To whom does God speak today? Everything and every person depending on their positioning. Everything obeys Him without question, but man has to be willing to obey him and do it. When man submits his will to God, he is said to be living the crucified life [Gal.2:20]. This is the kind of person God wants to speak to always and use to bless others and glorify himself on earth. See Jer.22:29, Ge.3:9-15; Hab.2:1-3; Jn.10:27 and Acts 13:1-3.
By positioning I mean a commitment to God through the new birth experience and total submission to God. Your submission is proven by your prompt and consistent obedience to him. To attain to this would require mind renewal on your part so that you can have the mind set of God and truly be united to Him. The means by which you renew your mind is the day and night meditation on the word of God. See Rm.12:1-2; Jos.1:8; Ps.1:1-3; 1Tim.4:13-16 etc.
Does God want to speak to you? The answer to this question is also affirmative. Yes God wants to speak to you always. He said so in His word and has proven it over time. He speaks to all both young and old, big and small, everyone can hear God so you too can hear him because He wants to speak to you. See 1Sam.3:10-11, Ps.32:8; Jer.33:3; Hab.2:1-3; Jn.10:27-29; Jn.16:13; Acts 16:6-9 and Rm.8:14, 16.
How does God speak to man? God speaks to man the same way He has been speaking through multitude of means as follows:
1.     The audible voice: This is the case where God speaks to someone audibly just like you hear another person speaking to you. This method is not really popular with God because the enemy may fake it as it is not coming from the spirit of the man. Any other person can speak to a person from outside. 1Sam.3:8-11
2.     The inner witness: This is the inner witness of the Holy Spirit within us assuring us with His peace as we receive a signal from him in our hearts. This is not the same as the authoritative inner voice of the Holy Spirit. It presents mostly in ideas that cannot be shaken off. Rm.8:14, 16
3.     Still small voice: This is the quiet nudging of the Holy Spirit leading us in a certain direction that would turn out to be to our advantage eventually. 1Kngs.19:11-12
4.     Dreams: Most places where the bible refers to dreams, they are called visions of the night or night vision. See Job 33:14-18, Mt.1:18-24 and Acts16:9-10
The list goes on and we will continue on Wednesday God willing. Meanwhile, there is someone reading this blog now wondering how God could speak to him or her because they are yet to belong to God’s family through the new birth experience. If you wish to hear God and be led by Him, you can say the following prayer out loud in faith and you will be born again and receive unhindered access to His voice:
Heavenly Father,
Have mercy on me a sinner. Today, I believe that Jesus died for me and you raised Him from the dead for my Justification. I therefore declare that Jesus Christ is my Saviour and Lord and from today, I renounce the fatherhood of Satan and embrace Jesus Christ as my Saviour and Lord. Thank you for this father in Jesus’ name! Amen.
