Topic: Understanding Pride as an enemy of visions and dreams Pt.2
Introduction: Last week, we began to look at what pride is and we saw an objective view of pride. Today, we shall continue by beginning to look at the dangers of pride with the intention of getting us to understand that pride is not an attitude any true believer should take lightly.
The dangers of walking in Pride:
It sets one up for a fall – A good example of someone who was destroyed by his pride is Pharaoh. See his example in Ex.14; Prov.16:18 and Prov.29:23
It robs one of the graces of God which are required for both receiving visions and dreams from God to fulfill destiny. God will resist the proud whereas He would guide the meek in judgement. In other words, He would not give the person grace to make the right choices so that that person’s fall would be inevitable. See Jas.4:6; 1Pet.5:5; Ps.25:9 and Prov.11:4 GNB.
It truncates destiny – To truncate is to abort. Every believer is destined for an enviable destiny but to actualize it, they need grace. Grace is divine favour and divine ability. Grace is not made available to the proud and if he does not humble himself within the time allocated to him for repentance by God, he would lose grace and come into disgrace which is the truncation of destiny. This is what happened to Saul in 1Sam.15 and Absalom in 2Sam.18:9.
It blinds its victim to the truth. All that the victim can see are the good qualities in his or her life like beauty, position and possession that fueled the pride because of his or her inability to manage them.  They blind the person and he cannot see the destruction looming behind his pride. See the case of Haman in the book of Esther; and Ezek.28:1-10 and Rev.3:14-22.
It promotes self-service to the detriment of one’s fulfillment. Fulfillment can only come on the platform of worship of God and not any other. When we place ourselves first, it is idolatry and we are to worship the lord our God and serve him only. A major curse idolatry places on a person is pride which is the highway to disgrace. See Mt.4:8-11 and 1Jn.2:15-17.
It leads to loss of vision and divine guidance. When a person is proud, it shows up in their casting off restraints of any kind when they want to do something. When this happens, they would be clearly demonstrating a loss of vision because vision promotes the discipline required for its fulfillment. Where no vision is, the people perish. Prov.29:18; Ps.32:8-9 and Ps.25:9.
It leads to barrenness. Pride is a trait of carnality and as a result the proud cannot bear fruit unto God which means he would be barren. This would therefore mean failure in service delivery and the result is that the Gardener would cut the person off. See Jn.15:1-5; Rm.8:5-9; 2Pet.1:1-10 and Gal.5:16-17.
It is the door way to a fall from grace. This was the case of Adam and Eve. They yielded to the temptation to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil when she saw that the tree was desirous to make one wise. This was the origin of the pride of life among humans. See Gen.3:6 and Prov.11:4GNB.
Eternal loss in the lake of fire and brim stone eventually: see Prov.16:5 and Rev.20:10-15.
Heavenly Father,
Have mercy on me a sinner. Today, I believe that Jesus died for me and you raised Him from the dead for my Justification. I therefore declare that Jesus Christ is my Saviour and Lord and from today, I renounce the fatherhood of Satan and embrace Jesus Christ as my Saviour and Lord. Thank you for this father in Jesus’ name! Amen.
