Understanding the nature of the word of God pt.2

Messages for January 2018: Our Month of The word of God
Message for Sunday 14th January, 2018
Theme: Exploring the Word of God
Topic: Understanding the nature of the word of God pt.2
Introduction: Last week, we established that God is the creator and that the means by which He creates are the imagination and speech. We also established that since He made man on the planet earth, He handed over the task of creating anything on earth to man. No spirit can come and create anything on earth anymore without possessing a body. What gives man authority on earth is the body; this explains why Jesus Christ had to take on a body in the incarnation to be able to take the place of man in redemption. See Heb.10:6-10; Ps.40:6-8 and Jn.5:27. Since Jesus Christ did this, authority over the earth was recovered by man however, he has to fight ignorance to actualize His place. This is why today, we are going to be looking at how man can condition himself to exercise in his office as creator under God:
Conditioning the imagination and speech for creating God’s way
Like we are taught in 1Thess.5:23; man is spirit, he has a soul and lives in a body. The spirit of man is the real man that can connect with God at new birth. It is the part of man that gets born again. When we get born again the Holy Spirit births a new spirit in us which the word of God refers to as the new creation. See 2Cor.5:17. To grow the spirit to be able to rule over the body which has always been God’s intention, we must feed it the word of God. See 1Pet.2:2.
The soul is the part of man that contains his mind will and emotions. It is responsible for his thinking, imagination with which he creates and his emotions. It is the cultivation of this aspect of man for creativity purpose with the word of God that we are concerned about today.
The body is the physical man that is tangible for all to be able to see and touch. It is the part of man responsible for his sustenance on earth. It is the part of man that gives him authority to live on earth because God conditioned the body for living on earth.
Cultivating the soul: The soul realm of man is the parent of his imagination which we are going to be looking at in depth today. The soul contains the mind which is used for thinking, the will which is used for decision making and the imagination which is responsible for dreaming and creativity. For the imagination to be conditioned to create, it has to be brought to speed with God’s standard. What is God’s standard?
1.     Man was made in the image of God so man would look like God. see Gen.1:26
2.     Man was made in the likeness of God so man has the ability to think and talk and create like God. God is a faith God so man has the ability to walk in faith. See Heb.11:1-3 – here we see that through faith, the things which are seen were created by things which are not seen. So the tangible world was made by the word of God so that tangible things were not made out of tangible things but the intangible.
3.     Man was commanded to be fruitful and multiply like God. So man has the ability to bring forth after his kind and create like God does. Gen.1:28.
4.     But man fell from his glorious place through sin and lost the ability to get things done as before because he came under the leadership of God’s arch enemy through sin and as a result his spirit lost connection with God and therefore, could no longer wield God’s power because his spirit died and could no longer supply the soul with the substance for creating God’s way.
5.     Perversion set in so that the same part of man responsible for creativity was now being put to the abnormal use of sexual perversion. Instead of creating, man began to cook up all kinds of evil like porn, witchcraft, lust, lies to further their selfish interests, lasciviousness and all the works of the flesh you can think of or hear of. See Gal.5:18-21; Col.3:8-10 and Rm.13:8-10.
Steps to conditioning your imagination to create:
1.     Reconcile to God: This is God’s passionate desire for man. He was so passionate about it that He willingly gave up His only begotten son for man’s redemption. New birth grants you access to divine nature again so that you really can become like God now. However, you become born again when the seed of the word is sown in you and you allow it to make a fruit of you through faith in the word expressed by your declaration of the Lordship of Jesus Christ over your life. See Jn.3:3-6, 16; 1Pet.1:23; 2Pet.1:4; Mt.18:11; Lk.19:10 and 2Cor.5:18-19.
2.     Develop your spirit: To do this, you have to feed on the word of God daily so that you can grow spiritually. Just as we eat natural food for our physical nourishment, we need to eat spiritual food for our spiritual nourishment so that we can mature enough spiritually to be able to wield our godly influence including creativity. The word of God is the food for our spirits. In feasting on the word of God and exercising faith in the word, there are levels of spiritual developments. You grow from feeding on the milk of the word to taking the meat of the word and then to strong meat and then to the honey of the word. At the milk stage, you are taught elementary truths of the gospel that would help you build up to be able to grow spiritually. As you exercise in the milk, you will grow to being able to take the meat of the word. When you consistently take the meat of the word over time, you would graduate to being able to take the strong meat of the word which is reserved for the mature believers. When you grow to this point, you will be able to use the word of God skillfully. This is the point when you begin to gain command as God intends and as you remain consistent, God will cause you to behold him on a daily basis and be transformed from glory to glory. See 1Pet.2:2; Heb.5:11-14 [please read this]; 1Cor.3:1-10; Eph.4:11-16; Gal.4:1-3 and 2Cor.3:18. We must therefore endeavor to grow up spiritually so that we can become and get all God wants us to be and get.
3.     Develop you soul to follow your spirit so you can be led by God’s Spirit: When we are led by the Holy Spirit, we can no longer be referred to as babies because only sons are led by the Spirit. At this point the Holy Spirit can teach us spiritual things and stir up the creative seed in us to germinate and begin to produce after God’s kind. See Rm.8:14-16; 1Cor.2:13-14; Jn.8:12; Jn.10:27 and Ps.23:1-3.
What happens when you develop your soul: Your value skyrockets and you begin to glorify God through your good works. When this is happening you are said to be shinning. Isa.60:1 predicted it and Jesus declared it in Mt.5:13-16 when He called us the salt and light of the earth and said it is by our good works that we glorify our father in heaven. Good works are the reason God made you. In fact there are good works reserved for each of us. When we develop our souls to follow our spirits, the Holy Spirit can unfold the revelation of our particular good works to us and cause us to impart it to our souls to be transmitted to our awareness. See Eph.2:10. Therefore when you develop your soul, the following things happen to you:
1.     You renew your mind so that you will no longer be carnal thinking like mere men but you will become spiritual thinking like God. See Ps.82:5-7; Rm.12:2; 8:5-8; Gal.5:18-22.
2.     You will have the power to put off sin and put on righteousness. Sin was what separated us from God in the first place and caused us to lose our creative ability. Now the ability to put it off grants us the leverage to be able to do what we could no longer do because of its presence in our lives. Righteousness is really the beauty of the new creation life. See Eph.4:22; Rm.13:12 and Col.3:8-10.
3.     Your creative ability would be activated to the point that you will never be stranded in life for want of what to do in any situation. You will be supplied the words you need to do what you ought to do every time the need arises. See Heb.13:5-6; Mt.28:18-20; Ps.32:8; Jer.33:3 and Jn.10:27-29.
4.     You will be able to bear the fruit of the spirit which is the demonstration of the character of a true believer in Christ Jesus. It takes abiding in the Lord to bear fruit for Him and his will is that we bear much fruit. There is the fruit of the spirit and the fruit of good works done spiritually without the involvement of the fleshly or carnal nature. See Jn.15:1-5; v.8 and 16; Gal.5:16-17 and 2Pet.1:4-11.
5.     It enables you to set your affections on things above as opposed to being mindful of earthly things which will take us nowhere. See Col.:3:1-3; Rm.8:5-8
We shall stop here for now, next week, we shall continue this discourse by God’s grace looking at how we can engage the imagination and sound to create God’s way. Meanwhile someone is reading this blog that is yet to take the first step above. You cannot be really creative as God desires until you are initiated into God’s family through the new birth. If you want to take advantage of this to get born again, I invite you to do so right away by saying the following prayer out loud in faith and you will become God’s child:
Heavenly Father,
Have mercy on me a sinner. Today, I believe that Jesus died for me and you raised Him from the dead for my Justification. I therefore declare that Jesus Christ is my Saviour and Lord and from today, I renounce the fatherhood of Satan and embrace Jesus Christ as my Saviour and Lord. Thank you for this father in Jesus’ name! Amen.
