The two sides of The Blessing – The Blessing and the Curse

Messages for May 2017: Our Month of Our Wealthy Places
Message for Sunday the 28th of May, 2017
Theme: Understanding our Wealthy Place in Christ
Topic: The two sides of The Blessing – The Blessing and the Curse
Introduction: Recently, a friend sent me a message on social media where in a video class, a minister of God tried to show how in recent times, the enemy has been trying to falsify the scriptures by removing consequences so as to promote lasciviousness in the Church. For instance in some modern translation of Romans 8:1, all you see is that there is therefore now no condemnation to them who are in Christ Jesus. The second part of the equation is cleverly excluded. In the King James Version of the Bible, it reads in addition: “… who walk not after the flesh but after the Spirit.”
The above thought exemplifies the recent problem the world has been facing as a result of some in the Church [which is supposed to be the pillar and ground of truth]; manifesting traces of corruption which has resulted in unthinkable scandals all of which could have been avoided if people were taught the whole truth and encouraged to walk in them early enough.
This is why today; we are rounding off the series of this month with the above topic to the effect that blessing has an option called the curse and that one is either blessed or cursed. Also we want to show that to whichever side a person belongs is determined by the choices they make. See Deu.30:19 and Jos.24:15.
Choose one: the Blessing or the Curse? In Deu.30:19-20, we read: “I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life that both thou and thy seed may live:
That thou mayest love the Lord thy God, and that thou mayest obey his voice, and that thou mayest cleave unto him: for He is thy life and the length of thy days: that thou mayest dwell in the land which the Lord Sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob, to give them.”
This is one text of scripture that clarifies the true definition of destiny. Destiny is a predetermined course of events determined by the choices we make.
Destiny is either a blessed one or an accursed one determined by our choices: The means for measuring what choice we are making all the time is the word of God. Our text scripture here brings it our clearly that God has set his word before us to choose either to do it or to not do it. He even went further to encourage us to choose to do it so we might have life or the blessing.
When Jesus came, He brought us eternal life which is the blessing and all we need to do to embrace eternal life is to believe on him and become His disciples and then we would know God and Jesus Christ in our experience. On the other hand, if we do not receive Him into our lives and live as His disciples, we would not be able to manifest the eternal life he talked about. See Jn.3:16; 5:24 and Rm.6:23.
As many as receive Jesus Christ are blessed and all who reject him, remain in the curse of death because in Adam, all have sinned and therefore condemned to death but in Christ we who once were dead are made alive through the redemption that comes through His blood. See Jn.3:16-21; 1Cor.15:22; Eph.1:7 and Col.1:14. Please note that in spite of all these that God has done for us, many are still lost even some Church attendees because they would not walk in His ways in spite of all His warnings. Sadly, some have paid attention to the lies of the enemy with which he seeks to slander God and deceive people into destruction as he did to Eve in Gen.3.
Examples of people who made the choice for the blessing in the word: Noah made the choice for the blessing and God found him righteous in a wicked generation and chose to spare him when He brought the flood on mankind. See Gen. 6:1-13; 17-18.
Abraham chose to serve God and walk in his ways in a generation where there was so much idolatry and rejection of the one true God through ignorance and satanic deceit. God gave Abraham an eternal legacy that has passed on to the entire world through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. See Gen12:1-4; Gal.3:16; 26-29 and Gal.4:28.
A good example of people having to make a destiny choice as we are looking at it based on the word of God is Jacob and Esau. These twins were in conflict from the womb. One of them had value for the blessing while the other had no value for it. The younger one who had value for the blessing inherited it while the elder one was busy trading his place for his temporary need to feed his stomach. Gen.25:29-37. Of them God later spoke through his servants the prophets and Apostle Paul thus: “Jacob have I loved and Esau have I hated”. I believe this is because of the choices they were to make and later made where the word of the Lord was concerned. See Mal.1:2-3 and Rm.9:13.
In the New Testament, we see a great example of this in Judas Iscariot who made the bad destiny choice of trading his place for pecuniary interests and could no longer repent and Peter the apostle who even when in weakness of the flesh denied the Lord had a chance to come back and fulfill his destiny because of the different choices they made. See Jn.26:14-16; Lk.22:31-34; Jn.21:14-19 and Mt.27:3-5.
The difference between Peter and Judas Iscariot was their heart. Peter went to Jesus with love for the master to the point he vowed to go to prison with him. He did not realize at this point that he had no power to do so. Eventually he got another chance. Judas Iscariot on the other hand went to the Lord for business. The result is that he traded his master’s life for pecuniary interests. At the end of the day, he committed suicide because he could not bear people realizing that he was a hypocrite all the while.
Someone may be reading this now that is yet to enter into the blessing that Jesus Christ gave His life for us to enter. Now you know that you can make a choice for the blessing and wish to do so right away. Today is your day; you can do so right away by saying the following prayer out loud in faith and you will be born again and enter into the will of God:
Heavenly Father,
Have mercy on me a sinner. Today, I believe that Jesus died for me and you raised Him from the dead for my Justification. I therefore declare that Jesus Christ is my Saviour and Lord and from today, I renounce the fatherhood of Satan and embrace Jesus Christ as my Saviour and Lord. Thank you for this father in Jesus’ name! Amen.
