What glory is in relation to God

Messages for June 2017: Our Month of Glory
Message for Sunday the 4th of June, 2017
Theme: Positioning for the Glory of God
Topic: What glory is in relation to God
Introduction:
The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork. Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge.
There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard.
Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them hath He set a tabernacle for the sun…” Ps.19:1-4
This Psalm is a vivid illustration of the ambit of the influence of the glory of God and its visible manifestation every time and in every place including here on earth. God’s glory is constant just like the sun but we can benefit from it by positioning ourselves to reflect it.
In this great month of our glory, we must try to understand glory not just from a human point of view but from God’s perspective. This is why we are looking at this theme.
What Glory is in relation to God:
When we want to describe the word, we would realize that it can only really be ascribed to God. This is why we say “Glory to God”. For instance, Glory is defined by the Ipad English dictionary as Praise, Honour, admiration or distinction accorded by common consent to a person or thing; high reputation honorable fame, renown.
It is also defined as quality in a person or thing which secures general praise or honour; that which brings or gives renown.
However, God has intended from before the creation of man to make man reflect His glory. To this end, he has set up a structure by which man can enjoy this grace. The main structure is His revelation to mankind which has been packaged in The Bible. From the word of God, we get to know God and how to relate with Him to the point of positioning ourselves for His glory.
For man to be able to reflect the glory of God, He must be properly positioned. This is because man has no glory of himself that is huge enough to accord him any regard without God; just as the moon has no glory of itself except the reflection it gets from the sun when it is properly positioned. See 2Cor.3:18 and 1Jn.3:2. We must therefore get to understand what glory is in relation to God and learn how to engage the structure God has set up to enable us take advantage of the word to fulfill our destinies in reflecting the glory of God.
Taking advantage of the word to reflect the glory of God: The word of God teaches us everything we need to know about the glory of God. Let us see some steps we can take to be able to position ourselves to reflect the glory of God:
1.     The first step we take to position ourselves to reflect the glory of God is the New Birth experience: when we hear the gospel preached and are convicted of sin, the wise thing to do then would be to repent and embrace God’s provision of salvation through the Lord Jesus Christ. When we do so, we are restored to God’s family and we become children of God because only God’s children can reflect His glory because power which only God can give; is required to become a child of God. Jn.1:12; 3:3, 5 & 7; Col.1:12-13 and Rm.6:22-23.
2.     Get filled with the Holy Spirit: This would empower you to become an effective witness of the Lord Jesus Christ. When Peter was asked how this could be in His first crusade, He said that people should first repent and be baptized so that they could receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. See Acts 1:8; 2:37-39; Rm.8:26; Jn.16:13 & 14:26.
3.     Cultivate an intimate relationship with the Holy Spirit: This entails that you commit yourself to growing up spiritually to the point of moving from childhood stage in your spiritual development to the stage of sonship where you can approach and relate with God with understanding. Children are born but sons are given. See Isa.9:6-7; Gal.4:1-7; Eph.2:8-10; 2Pet.3:18.
How to cultivate an intimate relationship with the Holy Spirit:
·        You have to start by becoming conscious of His presence with you all the time. He said He is with you always even to the end of the age. See Mt.28:20; Mk.16:19-20.
·        Talk to Him as a person and listen to hear His response. This may take some time because you are still getting your mind renewed but you can promptly renew your mind by living on the word of God day and night until you are soaked in it to the overflow. This would provide a common ground for you and the Holy Spirit to relate because He can only confirm the word of God and not your own word. Col.3:16; 1Tim.4:13-15; Jn.16:13-15; Jos.1:8 and Rm.12:2.
·        Pray in the spirit always: When you do this you are building up your most holy faith and this would help to keep you in the love of God. This is the place where God dwells because God is love. When you live like this, you will be in constant connection with God and be able to build up sensitivity to the voice of the Holy Spirit. You will grow up fast spiritually this way and be ready to take responsibility. See Eph.6:18; Jude 1:20-21 and Rm.8:26.
·        Walk in love: Without this, your faith cannot work because faith works by love and without faith, it is impossible to please God enough to want to keep company with you. See Gal.5:6; Heb.11:6; 1Jn.3:22-24 and Jn.13:34-35.
·        When He speaks and gives you any instruction, promptly obey with delight: This is what endeared Abraham to God and up till today God calls Him His friend. See Gen.12:1-4; 17:9-14, 23; 15:4-6; Jn.8:29 and Jn.14:23-24.
There is more to be said here but we shall draw the curtain here for today for want of time and space. Meanwhile, there is someone reading this piece that is yet to even take the first step we mentioned above in positioning for the glory of God. If you are that person and wish to take that step now, you can do so right away by saying the following prayer out loud in faith and you will be born again:

Heavenly Father,
Have mercy on me a sinner. Today, I believe that Jesus died for me and you raised Him from the dead for my Justification. I therefore declare that Jesus Christ is my Saviour and Lord and from today, I renounce the fatherhood of Satan and embrace Jesus Christ as my Saviour and Lord. Thank you for this father in Jesus’ name! Amen.
